There are multiple ways you can make video calls between Android & iPhones however, none of them involve FaceTime. Thankfully, there are a lot of alternatives that allow you to make video calls between Android & iPhones without any problems or compatibility issues. One of the easiest and fastest ways to make video calls between platforms is to use an app owned by Microsoft and another app that’s made by Google. The only major player missing in providing quality video chatting apps for multiple platforms is Apple. In all honesty, after you’ve used one of these alternative apps that smoothly run on different platforms, you won’t even feel the need to use FaceTime at all.

Note: we’re basically going to list multiple apps that will allow you to make video calls between Android & iPhones. This article is not going to mention hard to follow methods of making video calls at all, all you need to do is install one of these apps on both android and iOS, and you’re ready to make calls between them. No additional tools required.

Now that we have established how you can make video calls between Android & iPhones, let’s dig into the apps that are actually be making the calls.

Google Duo

Google has been making some amazing apps for the past couple of years and Google Duo is one of them. If you’re looking for a lightweight and simple app to make video calls between Android & iPhones, Google Duo is one of the best options available right now. Not only it provides exceptionally great video quality but also gives a stable and reliable video chatting experience. I’ve been using it since it launched and I haven’t dropped the single call on it. As a writer, you have to rely on a good quality video calling app to speak directly to clients and Google Duo has never once let me down. The app is available for android and iOS so you won’t have any trouble installing it on both platforms. One of the best features of this app is the ability to see the caller before you even pick up the call. If you are not interested in making video calls, the app also gives you the option of making audio only calls. This is especially good if you’re using mobile data and want to save it but still want to have a nice long chat without any compromises with your friends and family. However, a few times I’ve noticed that the calls take a little bit longer to connect. There is not a big problem but sometimes it can feel a little annoying if you’re in a hurry.

Skype

Skype is without a doubt the leading video calling application across multiple platforms. From sending text messages to photos and from making video calls to voice chats, Skype is able to deliver on all aspects. The app is available across multiple platforms so if you want to make a video call between a Windows based PC and an iPhone, Skype is the app you should get. Unlike other video calling apps on android or iOS, Skype is available on Mac, Windows, android, iOS, and Windows mobile. So basically if you want to make sure you have an app that can get connected to almost any other platform, Skype is the one you should get. Skype also allows you to add your favorite friends and family members in different chat groups. There you can carry out conversations with multiple people without any kind of this connectivity. When it comes to video chatting, Skype takes a little bit more data to deliver a stable experience. However, the video quality is top notch and if you have a stable connection, it will be a smooth experience for all parties involved. However, some older devices have been struggling running Skype smoothly, if you have a 4-year-old android smartphone with an outdated version of android, you may not have a smoother experience.

BBM Enterprise

BlackBerry is a brand that people associate with security and reliability. Their dedicated messaging app is also considered one of the most secure video chatting apps around. The app allows you to make video and watch calls between BBM contacts for absolutely free. You can easily have one on one chats and an inbox and also have group chats with a couple of buddies. From sending voice notes to photos and from sending videos to files, the Blackberry Messenger is a very capable piece of software that is available for both android and iOS. When it comes to making video calls, all you need to do is access the contact and press on the video chat icon right on the top right corner of the screen. The video quality is really good and if you have a stable connection, you won’t see any drops or hitches. I don’t have the most stellar connection at home but I didn’t see any video artifacts that we usually see on video chatting apps at all. The app worked perfectly while making calls and no problems were faced during chats.

IMO

If you’re looking for a straightforward and simple to use video calling app that is available for both android and iOS, then IMO is one of the best options. The app offers end-to-end encrypted high quality video calls that you can make between android and iPhones with ease. Being an end to end encrypted video chatting app makes IMO secure and reliable. One of the best features of this app is its ability to make group video calls with family and friends. Having multiple people in a single video chat is amazing not only for having fun but also for having a straightforward business meeting. I’ve had many chats with friends on this app and only once my call dropped and it was due to my shoddy Internet connection. The app also work pretty fine over 4G LTE connectivity and the video quality was top-notch throughout my call.

ICQ

ICQ is the most entertaining option if you want to make calls between android & iPhones. There are a lot of features that not only allow you to make good quality video calls but have fun while doing so. The app is capable of making highly secured encrypted calls so all of your data is reliably transferred from your smartphone to your friend’s. One great feature is the ability to transfer your speech into text for voice messages, this can yield hilarious results if it goes wrong. The app also allows you to create your very own stickers that can be used during chats. The animated 3-D masks add an entertaining twist to your regular video calls. If you want to go live, the app also has the option of doing live chats with unlimited participants and channels. The video quality is good and I didn’t have any problems during the testing. However, the group call was a little bit harder to sustain and I had to drops during it. Perhaps my Internet connection was not able to handle 5 people chatting at once. Otherwise, for one on one video conversations, the app delivered fully. You also have the option of synchronizing the chats across multiple devices so you’ll always stay up-to-date.
