Thanks to the vast improvements made to smartphone cameras, mobile photo editing is more popular than ever. Everyone wants to add those little tweaks to make their photos really pop and there are a metric ton of apps that can do just that. Searching for photo editor apps in the Google Play Store will return enough results to make your head spin so we’ve put together a list of the best photo editing apps for Android tablets.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop Express

[Price: Free/In-App Purchases]
Adobe has vastly improved their mobile offerings over the last year with Lightroom and Photoshop Express leading the charge in the photo editing apps department. They’re both more powerful than average and they both also sync to the desktop variants as long as you use the Adobe Creative Cloud. Individually, Lightroom can be used to adjust photos with a slew of one-touch adjustments while Photoshop Express lets you do the basics like add filters, crop, as well as an auto-fix function that helps smooth out the rough edges. They’re both pretty decent and must haves for serious photography.

AirBrush

[Price: Free]
AirBrush is a great photo editing app if you take a lot of selfies. It specializes in quick fixes and edits made to face and skin including a blemish remover, teeth whitening, a function to make eyes look brighter, reshaping tools, and, of course, plenty of filters to add some pizzazz. It’s quite easy to use and has managed an incredible 4.8 rating in the Google Play Store. Most of the tools are one-click which makes all of it exceptionally easy to use as well.

Facetune2

[Price: Free, in app purchases]
Facetune2 is an app that plays to the popularity of that famous made up term – “selfie.” Obviously, selfies are no new thing, but with image quality from front-facing cameras on the rise, you might want to invest in an app like Facetune2 to take your selfies to the next level. The app features tools that allow you to smooth out your skin, remove blemishes, brighten your eyes, whiten your teeth and more. Now, I can’t say that I would personally like to change the way my face looks past a certain extent, but Facetune2 makes it easy to even go as far as reshaping/refining your facial structure. Anyway – if a nice looking selfie or portrait photo is what you’re after, check this one out.

Fotor Photo Editor

[Price: Free/In-App Purchases]
Fotor is a long time member of this list and there are many blogs and lists that list Fotor as a must have option. We agree. It’s has a lot more actual editing tools than most and includes the ability to enhance photos with a one-tap tool for your convenience. Some of the other tools include crop, rotate, brightness, contrast, saturation, exposure, vignetting, shadow, highlights, temperature, tint, RGB, and, if those aren’t working, there are over 100 filters for you to choose from. It’s definitely worth a shot.

PhotoDirector

[Price: Free]
PhotoDirector is a newer entrant (comparatively speaking) into the photo editing space on Android and this one is pretty good. Like Fotor, this one focuses a lot more on manual enhancements rather than filters and you have access to HSL sliders, RGB color channels, white balance, and more to properly edit your photos. There are also sliders for tone, brightness, darkness, exposure, and contrast for more in-depth editing. It’s more powerful than most and should be good for those who want something other than filters.

Photo Editor Pro

[Price: Free]
Photo Editor Pro is a very popular option that has garnered more than 50 million downloads and well over one million reviews to date. It’s a good mix between a modern “filter editor” and a regular editor and has plenty of features that support both types of editing. You’ll find stuff like sharpen and blur modes, temperature control, as well as saturation, hue, contrast, and brightness controls. You’ll also find stickers, frames, filters, and you can even add text to images to create your own memes. It’s a good middle of the road option depending on what you need.

Photo Effects Pro

[Price: Free]
Photo Effects Pro is definitely an editor for those who like to play with filters, effects, stickers, and things like that. It boasts more than 40 filters and effects as well as the ability to add text, stickers, and frames as well. An unusual feature Photo Effects Pro has is the ability to finger paint on your photo to make it something unique that you make. There is a small selection of photo editing tools, but you’re definitely getting this one for the effects.

PicsArt has been around for a very long time and has accumulated over 250 million downloads to date. Thankfully, the developers have done a decent job updating the app to keep it modern. Pixlr – Free Photo Editor

[Price: Free]
Pixlr by AutoDesk, also known as Pixlr Express, is a powerful photo editor and one that our readers have recommended to us time and time again. It has one of the best one-touch enhance tools that we’ve seen and it also includes a ton of other features and tools that you can use. It does have filters, although it cleverly disguises them as “overlays” and also includes cosmetic editing tools like blemish removers and teeth whiteners. It’s a solid all around option with a little something for everybody.

Prisma Photo Editor

[Price: Free]
Sometimes you just need a simple app that produces incredible imagery. That’s Prisma. With this app, you can take photos from your device, or capture within the app, and apply artistic filters from some famous folk (Munk, Picasso, etc.) to turn them into something pretty cool. The cool part is, you don’t have to commit 100% to a filter, you can adjust each filter’s “strength” to tone them down a little. Equally useful are the built-in Instagram and Facebook share buttons. Many photo editing apps require that you download the image before then sharing to social networks. Though the simplicity of this app is something to be admired, I did find myself wanting a bit more at times. It’s a pretty niche app, but certainly one to give a try.

Snapseed

[Price: Free]
This unique photo editor was scooped up by Google a few years ago and has since turned into one of the premiere photo editing apps for Android. It has support for RAW photos which will please photographers greatly. You can also tune the image using a variety of sliders and one-touch enhance tools. There are also some filters as well if you’re into that. It’s deceptively light and simple for how powerful it is and it’s entirely free with no in-app purchases.

Square InPic – Photo Editor

[Price: Free]
Instagram’s photo editing software has gotten really good lately, but it still has its limitations. Installing an app like Square InstaPic, or one of the other android tablet photo editing apps on this list will help you step up your Instagram game. Square InstaPic, specifically, makes it easy to adjust the background of non-square images to change the color or texture, add blur effects and more. So if you don’t want to crop in on your portrait image, you can just make the background look nicer than plain white.

You’ll find some of your familiar Instagram photo adjustments (contrast, exposure, saturation, etc.) in here, and you can also add text and emoji. It’s not the greatest UX of a photo editing app, but over 10 Million people have downloaded it from Google Play, so I’d say it’s worth a shot!

Toolwiz Photos Editor PRO

[Price: Free/In-App Purchases]
Toolwiz is by far one of my favorites on this list. For starters, the app is gorgeous. I love the home screen and how you can jump right into Pro Editing mode and select a photo from your device, or take a new photo from within. The Pro Editing mode gives you access to an insanely comprehensive set of tools, many of them like what you would find in professional editing software. Toolwiz’s defining feature is the “Urban” filter which takes your photos and layers on textures, colors and patterns to create a pretty impressive, artistic image. I’ve personally already created some awesome wallpapers using this one. I highly recommend you give this one a shot.
